KAZUHIRO HORI

Kazuhiro Hori was born in Shinjo, Japan where he currently lives and works.

At first glance the oil paintings of the artist Kazuhiro Hori display young girls surrounded by huge teddy bears and candy bars. The settings seem as playful and jolly as the colors he uses, reminding us of Pop Art or even Manga comics. In a bizarre, almost morbid context, the artist makes Japanese schoolgirl culture the subject of his work. By distorting the facial expressions of his figures to an empty and depressive gaze, he reveals the ambivalence of innocence and perversion associated with the school uniform. It's a curious juxtaposition of playful obsession with cuteness and sexual stimulation.
