LENA POLICZKA / Rush
The exhibition LENA POLICZKA / Rush takes place from 15th of September until 27th of October 2017. The opening day was on 14th of September 2017.
The foundation for the artistic work of Lena Policzka is a conceptual debate, which is based on scientific facts and social conventions of the industrial world. She starts her artistic research from the scientific discussion about a new era, the "Anthropocene". Her particular interest belongs to the question, which has not yet been clarified, at what point man has replaced nature as a formative force. To this day the clear "Golden Spike”, an imprint in nature, is still missing as a geological proof for the beginning of human.
Lena Policzka translates this question into her artistic concept, applied for a broad cycle of works and characterized by strict geometry, monochrome color, industrial materiality and experimental processes. The initial search for forms begins with the construction of smaller models of paper. The fund of models is only selected at the end and enlarged with materials such as aluminum, glass, wood, epoxy resin,
The intention of the artist is to document the contents of anthropocene theory. For this purpose, she uses, among other things, chemical reactions. In Policzka's cycle "Rush", the artist plays with associations such as the "gold rush" or the "rush hour". Images of human urge for progress, to which she juxtaposes a correlative residue, a sort of throttling deposit.
